Heroes/Villains
My mixed-media assemblage works center on 20th Century Icons; Heroes, and Villains.
My ‘Heroes’ are musicians from the idioms of blues, jazz, punk, rock and roll; they are a visual beloved mixed tape; seen, heard, loved, experienced, and personal.
My ‘Villains’ are historically significant figures, whose legacies are too often airbrushed, sweetened, and dignified; these works critique that historically-palatable treatment.
I pursue the feel of telephone-pole concert posters, subway ads, photocopied handbills, and glossy star magazines. The works are cut, burnt, struck, ripped, scraped, repaired and re-repaired. These are works on reclaimed/recycled wood and metal, produced in dimensions from small-to-large easel size.
